Silvio Rodríguez

When we think of Cuban music that emerged with the Revolution, Silvio Rodríguez is a central figure. His style, part of what is known as Nueva Trova, is distinguished by a deep connection with poetry and a way of composing that invites reflection. Before consolidating himself as a solo artist, he was part of the Grupo de Experimentación Sonora, an entity that explored new sounds, and also had his beginnings in television. His work, spanning over four decades, translates into hundreds of songs and about twenty albums that have resonated far beyond Cuba's borders.

There was a key moment in his career, around 1969, when he embarked on a journey of almost five months across the Atlantic and the African coasts. During that voyage, aboard a fishing boat, he composed a remarkable number of songs, many of which would become very well-known and later compiled into a book. This period of isolation and navigation seems to have been incredibly fertile for his creative process, giving rise to themes that explore life and the future.
