Biography
He was also recognized with some Grammy awards, although not all. In 1992 he won a critics' poll and in 1991 a readers' poll. In 2000, he received a Grammy Latino for *Crooner*, an album that put him on the map. His music has been playing in Brazil and other Latin American countries for decades, as seen in a concert in Belo Horizonte in 1984, where the stadium was filled.
Although he was born in Rio, his life didn't start there. His adoptive parents took him to Três Pontas when he was two years old. His mother sang in festivals and sometimes took him along. His father was an engineer and professor, and had a radio where sometimes his son worked. In 1966, one of his songs, *Cancão do sal*, was recorded by Elis Regina. That launched him into the world. After that, he went to Belo Horizonte and started singing anywhere they would let him.
In 1972, he recorded *Clube Da Esquina* with friends like Marcio Borges. That album was well received and became a standard. Since 1967, he recorded 28 albums, always with his style. In the 80s and 90s, he explored more, both in voice and lyrics. He also acted in *Fitzcarraldo*, a film by Herzog. In the 90s, he went to Warner Bros. And in 2012, he celebrated 50 years of career in a concert in Rio, which was recorded and became a DVD.
