More about Marilina Bertoldi
Biography
After that first success, she put together a more professional project. She recruited session musicians, including Hernán Rupolo, who became a key collaborator. This gave birth to what was first called Marilina Connor Questa, a name that played with the idea of "Marilina with orchestra," which they later shortened to Connor Questa. They released an independent EP and, the following year, their first album, Somos por partes, which sold out in just five months.
While still with the band, in 2012, Marilina Bertoldi released her first solo work online, titled El peso del aire suspirado. This six-track album, all written by her, featured her sister, Lula Bertoldi, on backing vocals. In 2013, Connor Questa released Fuego al universo. After this launch, the band shortened its name, signed with Pelo Music, and went on tour across Argentina and Uruguay, selling out tickets. The following year, 2014, Marilina released her second solo album, La presencia de las personas que se van, which came with a music video for each song.
In March 2015, Marilina Bertoldi decided to disband Connor Questa, feeling they no longer shared the same vision for the band’s future and that there were internal conflicts. That same year, the band posted a farewell message on their Facebook page.
On April 22, 2016, her third solo album, Sexo con modelos, was released, featuring the tracks Cosas dulces and Y deshacer. This album was nominated for Best Rock Album at the Latin Grammy Awards in 2016 and won the Premio Gardel for Best Female Rock Album in 2017. In 2018, she collaborated on Louta’s album and, on October 3 of that same year, released her fourth album, Prender un fuego. With this latest work, she won the Premio Gardel de Oro for Album of the Year in 2019, becoming the first woman to achieve this since Mercedes Sosa and the first openly lesbian artist to do so.
