La Pestilencia

La Pestilencia began in Bogotá in 1986, with Héctor Buitrago and Dilson Díaz. Héctor later became part of Aterciopelados, and Dilson came from Medellín. They met through a punk special that Dilson did on Radio Fantasía, where he received a call from Héctor. That was the beginning of something that would eventually become important in Colombia.

The band got involved in the world of punk and alternative metal, and their music speaks about things that hurt: corruption, war, displacement, disappearances, children in war, environment. Their way of seeing things made them a strong voice in the country's rock scene. Over time, they became a reference for other bands like Ekhymosis or Betelgeuse, and they also managed to go beyond the borders.

More about La Pestilencia

Biography

In 1989 they released their first album, La Muerte... Un compromiso de todos, which became a milestone. It was an album that put them on the map. Although the process wasn't easy, because Dilson had voice problems, they didn't stop. Instead of waiting, they kept going forward. That album helped the band establish a place in the underground Colombian rock scene.

In the meantime, they kept playing in different places around Bogotá, from Los Alcázares to La Candelaria. Their concerts were more than just shows: they were events that generated commotion, even riots. The press called them "the plague" because of their way of making music, but also because of their way of expressing what couldn't be said aloud. Over time, they became a band that didn't just play, but also made people think.
