Kid Abelha

Since the 1980s, Kid Abelha established itself as a Brazilian band that managed to capture the public's attention with its sound. Composed of Paula Toller, George Israel, and Bruno Fortunato, the group has sold around 9 million records in Brazil. Their career began to take shape when Paula Toller approached the circle of Leoni, who led the band Chrisma. Paula's visits to rehearsals, despite her initial shyness, pushed her to get on stage. The arrival of George Israel, a saxophonist, brought a new dimension to the group, which soon adopted the name Kid Abelha e os Abóboras Selvagens after a mention on Rádio Fluminense FM. Their first demo, "Distração", resonated immediately, opening doors to performances at Circo Voador and their participation in the compilation LP Rock Voador with tracks like "Distração" and "Vida de Cão é Chato pra Cachorro".

After Pedro Farah's departure to live in the United States, Bruno Fortunato established himself as the guitarist. Beni Borja, who would later dedicate himself to producing Biquini Cavadão, was the next to leave the lineup, being replaced by session drummers. The band signed with Warner and released their first single, Pintura Íntima, with "Por Que Não Eu?" on the B-side. The catchy chorus of "Fazer amor de madrugada" marked a milestone, becoming their first major radio hit and earning them their first gold record. In 1984, the song Como Eu Quero became another major success, securing their second gold record. That same year, their debut album Seu Espião solidified their presence on the charts with songs like "Fixação", "Nada Tanto Assim", and "Alice (Não Me Escreva Aquela Carta de Amor)", adding a third gold record.

More about Kid Abelha

Biography

The band experienced a peak moment in January 1985 when they performed at Rock in Rio, playing before crowds of 50,000 and 250,000 people. That same year, they released their second album, Educação Sentimental, which included hits like "Lágrimas e Chuva" and "Garotos". The collaboration with Léo Jaime on "A Fórmula do Amor" also resulted in a new gold record, and for this work, drummer Claudinho Infante joined. However, an incident during a Léo Jaime show, where Leoni was not invited to join the stage, generated tensions. These disagreements, which involved their partners Fabiana Kherlakian and Herbert Vianna, led to the departure of Leoni, who was a key figure in songwriting.

The band continued its journey, and although the name Kid Abelha e os Abóboras Selvagens remained until 1988, the lineup evolved. After a separation in 2007, Kid Abelha returned to the stage in 2010 to celebrate their 30-year career with a tour that included a performance at the Brazilian Day festival in Tokyo. After a period without concerts since 2013, in April 2016 they officially announced the end of their activities.
