Your Time Is Gonna Come

When you dive into Your Time Is Gonna Come, you are met with an opening that invites reflection. The piece begins with John Paul Jones on the Hammond organ, creating an atmosphere that some compare to Procol Harum classics. Then, Jimmy Page joins with his Gibson J-200 acoustic guitar, and furthermore, experiments with a Fender steel guitar, which according to himself, he learned to play during the sessions for this first album. It is interesting to note that this steel guitar, which sounds as if a slide were used, was slightly out of tune on the initial recording because Page did not yet have the complete equipment to set it up correctly. The total duration of the song is 4 minutes and 35 seconds.

This song, part of the self-titled debut album by Led Zeppelin, was recorded in October 1968 at Olympic Sound Studios in London. The entire album was conceived in just 30 hours. While the lyrics speak of an unfaithful woman who will have to face the consequences of her actions, the music presents an intriguing duality: on one hand, John Bonham's drumming drives a powerful rock sound, while the guitars, like Page's, explore softer, folk textures. This combination of elements, spanning from blues to West Coast American influences, laid the foundation for the band's distinctive style. Despite being one of the band's earliest compositions, only two live performances are known: a fragment during a medley of Whole Lotta Love in Tokyo in 1971, and another part of No Quarter in San Diego in 1973. Later, in 1999, Jimmy Page performed it on his tour with The Black Crowes, and a version of that collaboration can be found on the album Live at the Greek.
