The story behind

The story behind *Yellow Submarine* is as colorful as its title suggests. Originally conceived as a piece for the animated film of the same name, this song became a milestone for The Beatles. What's interesting is that, despite being sung by Ringo Starr, the main composition falls to the Lennon-McCartney duo, with Paul McCartney having a predominant influence on the lyrics, inspired by some sweets he tried in Greece. The recording itself was a sonic adventure: unconventional effects were used, such as blowing bubbles in a bucket of water, shaking a chain in a tub, and it is even said that Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones collaborated by clinking glasses. These details give the song a unique texture, far removed from the more conventional recordings of the time.

Recorded between May 26 and June 1, 1966, at EMI studios in London, *Yellow Submarine* was part of the album Revolver, released that same year. It was a particular moment for the band, as in mid-1966 they stopped touring, which meant that none of the songs from Revolver were performed live by the group. However, the song had a later life on stage, as Ringo Starr included it in his solo tours, and Paul McCartney has also played it occasionally. The animated film, directed by George Dunning, premiered in London in June 1968, and the eponymous album, released in January 1969, contained this and other compositions by the band, as well as orchestral music from the film composed by George Martin. It was the first and only time a song led by Ringo Starr reached the top of the charts.
