The story behind
What’s So Good About Goodbye, according to DoReSol
The song What’s So Good About Goodbye, with its 2 minutes and 39 seconds duration, is included in the album The Temptations Sing Smokey, released in 1965. What's interesting about this work is that all the compositions and production were handled by Smokey Robinson, along with other members of The Miracles. Some of these pieces had already been performed by Robinson for other Motown artists like Mary Wells, while others were recorded for the first time by The Temptations.
This album, released under the Gordy Records label, a subsidiary of Motown, is the group's second studio record. Three singles were released from it, which had a great impact. The first, The Way You Do the Things You Do, featured Eddie Kendricks on lead vocals. Then, It’s Growing and what would become their best-known song, My Girl, featured David Ruffin as lead vocalist, marking a key moment in the trajectory of The Temptations.
