The story behind
What Love Has Joined Together, according to DoReSol
The song *What Love Has Joined Together* has an interesting story behind it, as it was conceived by two members of The Miracles, Smokey Robinson and Bobby Rogers. What's particular is that not only did they record it, but it became a song that several Motown artists gave their own interpretation. In fact, for The Temptations, this piece was released as the B-side of their single *It's Growing* in 1965, a year after Mary Wells did the same with *Your Old Standby* in 1963. The lyrics, in essence, speak of a love that is so strong that external opinions cannot bring it down, reaffirming that what love has joined together, no one can separate.
This song was originally recorded by The Miracles in 1962. Then, Mary Wells re-recorded it the following year. For The Temptations, the version we hear on the 1965 album The Temptations Sing Smokey, which as its name suggests, is full of compositions and productions by Smokey Robinson and other members of The Miracles. Other artists like Barbara McNair recorded it in 1968, although her version did not see the light of day until 2004. Later, Syreeta included it on her debut album in 1972, and Queen Latifah featured it on her CD *Trav'lin Light* in 2007. Even The Miracles recorded an extended version in 1970 for their self-titled album.
