The story behind
We're Gonna Make It, according to DoReSol
The song We’re Gonna Make It sounds like a cry of resistance wrapped in rhythms that jump between reggae and dancehall. It’s not just another track from the album Welcome to Jamrock: it carries the essence of Jamaica in every note, with a message that goes beyond music. The title already hints at that fighting tone, but what makes it special is how that message intertwines with a groove that never stops. The bass and keyboards create a foundation that seems made for movement, while Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley’s voice flows with a confidence that spreads. It’s not a song that asks for permission: it announces it’s coming, and it does so with an energy that doesn’t fade in the first 30 seconds.
Recorded in 2005 with the collaboration of his brother Stephen Marley in production, this track was born from the need to show a Jamaica that rarely appears in the news. Damian and Stephen worked together in the studio, using equipment they already knew well, and the result was a sound that blends the traditional with something fresh. The mix was handled by Errol Brown, who gave it that clean yet powerful air that lets every instrument breathe in its place. At 4:20 in length, not a second is wasted or missing: the song moves forward like a train that has no intention of stopping.
