The story behind
Volverás, according to DoReSol
The song Volverás, with music created by Gloria Estefan and Rafael Ferro, transports us to the artist's Cuban roots. It is part of the album Mi Tierra, released in June 1993, a project that Emilio Estefan, her husband, produced with the intention of paying homage to her heritage. This record work delves into Cuban musical genres such as bolero, danzón, and son music. The recording took place at Crescent Moon Studios in Miami, Florida, and featured the collaboration of renowned Latin musicians such as Tito Puente, Arturo Sandoval, Cachao López, Chamin Correa, and Paquito D'Rivera. The result is a 3-minute and 56-second piece that captures the essence of that culture.
The album Mi Tierra was a resounding international success, selling over five million copies. In the United States, it marked a milestone by being the first album to reach number one on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart, remaining in that position for 58 weeks, a record that lasted until 2021. The production was handled by engineers such as Charles Dye, Patrice Wilkison Levinsohn, Frank Miret, Eric Schilling, and Ron Taylor, who contributed to shaping this distinctive sound. Gloria Estefan, whose birth name is Gloria María Milagrosa Fajardo García, was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1957, and has established herself as an important figure in music, selling millions of records throughout her career and being recognized with multiple awards, including seven Grammys.
