The story behind
The musical piece Visita al cinema, with its duration of 2 minutes and 24 seconds, transports us directly to the atmosphere of a projection room. Composed by Ennio Morricone, this melody was created to accompany the film Nuovo Cinema Paradiso, a 1988 film directed by Giuseppe Tornatore. The collaboration between Morricone and Tornatore marked the first time they worked together, resulting in a soundtrack that evokes the nostalgia and magic of cinema. The production of this piece was overseen by Enrico De Melis.
Nuovo Cinema Paradiso tells the story of Salvatore, a successful film director but with an inner void, who reminisces about his childhood and youth in the town of Giancaldo. The news of the death of Alfredo, the local cinema projectionist and a guiding figure in his life, becomes the catalyst for this journey into the past. Morricone's music, in this case Visita al cinema, intertwines with the plot, underscoring moments of discovery and the particular atmosphere of that cinema which marked the protagonist's life. The film was a co-production involving several companies, including Cristaldifilm and Les Films Ariane, and featured actors such as Philippe Noiret and Salvatore Cascio.
