The story behind
Urban Nomads, according to DoReSol
Author and Felix Haug crafted Urban Nomads in a riff that repeats like an urban heartbeat, but with an unexpected twist: the rhythmic foundation does not follow traditional meter. The bass and drums weave into a 7/8 pattern, giving it that hurried walking feel, as if the song were advancing through narrow streets where every step sounds different. It’s not a perfect loop, but something alive, with breaths that keep the track from ever feeling rigid. The detail lies in how the synthesizers, almost like beacons in the night, light the way without losing the organic essence of the percussion.
The recording was born in a small studio in Zurich, where Author and Felix Haug worked with borrowed equipment and a tight budget. It took three days, yet the result became one of their most recognized pieces. They weren’t aiming to sound like anyone in particular; they wanted to capture that sense of constant motion that defines modern cities. The title Urban Nomads is no accident: it speaks of that rhythm that drags us along, of music as a journey with no fixed destination. The 4:56 runtime gives just enough space to develop the idea without tiring the listener, like a stroll that ends when the sun is already high.
