The story behind
When Mark Ronson set out to create his fourth studio album, *Uptown Special*, the idea for "Uptown Funk" emerged from a jam session. What started as a loose idea, a kind of jam that Bruno Mars and his band were already playing on their tours, began to take shape. The recording took place in 2014, at the Daptone studio in Brooklyn, New York, and featured the collaboration of Jeff Bhasker. They worked on it for seven months, in sessions that were intense and sometimes stressful, searching for the perfect sound. The lyrics, which speak of fashion, self-love, and a confident masculine attitude, were built on metaphors and a charismatic tone. The result is a track that draws from 80s funk, with touches of soul, boogie, and disco-pop, creating a contagious energy.
"Uptown Funk" was released on November 10, 2014, and quickly became a phenomenon. The music video, directed by Cameron Duddy and Bruno Mars himself, showed the artists dancing and walking down the street, capturing the song's festive essence. This track not only topped the charts in 19 countries but also broke streaming records. In the United States, it remained at number one on the *Billboard Hot 100* for 14 weeks, and in the United Kingdom, it topped the singles chart for seven weeks. It was recognized with multiple awards, including the Brit Award for British Single of the Year in 2015, and the Grammy for Record of the Year in 2016. The impact of "Uptown Funk" was such that it was used in the soundtrack of the series *Glee* and in advertising campaigns, in addition to being parodied on numerous occasions, consolidating itself as a cultural milestone.
