The story behind
Una storia importante, according to DoReSol
This song was born as a takeoff. In 1985, Eros Ramazzotti returned to the Sanremo Music Festival after winning the previous year in the category for new artists, but the jury only gave him sixth place. However, the public did not agree with the decision: the song became the best-selling among the participants of that edition, surpassing one million copies in France alone. With a rhythm that hooks from the first chords and a melody that repeats like a sticky echo, Una storia importante did not need awards to remain in the memory of those who listen to it.
They recorded it in February of that same year for the label DDD, with Piero Cassano as producer and Celso Valli in charge of the arrangements. The lyrics were written by Ramazzotti, Cassano, and Adelio Cogliati, a trio that had already been working together on the previous album, Cuori agitati. The song, just over four minutes long, has that air of pop ballad with touches of Italian rock that would later define his style: a nasal voice stretched over clean chords and a chorus that invites humming without realizing it. It was not an instant success in Italy — on the charts it lagged behind other competing songs — but its strength lay in how it connected with audiences outside the country, especially in France, where sales exceeded 625,000 copies.
