The story behind
When you dive into Una luna de miel en la mano, you encounter a piece that, despite its apparent simplicity, hides layers of meaning and a rather particular creative process. The song, also known simply as Luna de miel, became the most resonant track by Virus. Its lyrics, as has been commented, play with ambiguity and provocation, characteristics that defined the group. While it addresses themes of intimacy and sexuality, it does so through metaphors that invite multiple interpretations, from an ode to self-exploration to the description of an emotional and physical connection where imagination plays a central role. This duality in the lyrics is one of the aspects that make it so unique and undoubtedly contributes to its longevity.
The genesis of Una luna de miel en la mano is as interesting as its content. It was the last piece added to the album Locura, released in 1985. The record label had requested a minimum of eight songs, and Virus, which already had seven ready, found themselves needing to compose one more. The magic happened in the air, during a flight to New York, the destination they were traveling to for the album's mixing. With a guitar at hand, Julio Moura and Federico Moura laid the foundations for the track. Once in the American city, a friend of the band, Eduardo Costa, who had shared experiences in Rio de Janeiro during the 1970s, contributed the lyrics. This process, described as very improvised, resulted in the most emblematic song in Virus's history. The title, for its part, has a literary connection, drawing inspiration from a fictional play mentioned in James Joyce's novel Ulysses. The album Locura, which includes this song, stood out for being the group's most sophisticated and with a more pronounced sexual theme, selling over 200,000 copies in Argentina and consolidating Virus as part of the music scene that was conquering America alongside other important bands of the era.
