Top Jimmy

Tonalidad D minor Dificultad Intermedio 🇬🇧 Inglés
Top Jimmy was a guy from Kentucky who ended up in Tacoma, Washington, and then moved to Los Angeles in 1970. There he met a guy who later became known as Billy Zoom. His stage name came from a fast food place called Top Taco, near A&M studios. In 1979 he started playing, with improvised bands called "Top Jimmy and the All-Drunk All-Stars". One day he appeared in a movie, getting a tattoo from John Doe of X. Later, he worked as a roadie for X, and during a sound check he sang "Roadhouse Blues" by the Doors. That caught the attention of Ray Manzarek, who then invited him to do a version of the song at a special event. He was also included in X concerts as a closing act. Top Jimmy & The Rhythm Pigs formed around 1980. They played in various places, but the key point was the "Blue Monday" at the Cathay de Grande, every Monday. There artists like Tom Waits and Stevie Ray Vaughan would gather. The place was loud, with fights and a lot of people drinking. Although everything was chaotic, the energy was good. David Lee Roth of Van Halen also went to that club, where Jimmy worked. Because of that, the song "Top Jimmy" appeared on the 1984 album. Although they never got together to record anything, the connection remained. ↓ Skip to chords
