The story behind
Tío Alberto, according to DoReSol
The song *Tío Alberto* is taken from the album *Mediterráneo*, a fundamental work in the career of Joan Manuel Serrat. This album, originally released in 1971 under the Novola label, has been recognized by both critics and the public as one of the most important works in Spanish music. In fact, in 2004, a specialized publication placed it third on its list of the hundred best Spanish albums of the 20th century, and in 2007 it was inducted into the Latin Grammy Hall of Fame. After a period out of circulation, the album was reissued in 2000.
The music of *Tío Alberto* is entirely the work of Joan Manuel Serrat, who also composed the rest of the pieces that make up *Mediterráneo*. The musical arrangements for the album were handled by figures such as Juan Carlos Calderón and Gian Piero Reverberi, among others. Serrat, born in Barcelona in 1943, is a multifaceted artist also known as "El noi del Poble-sec" or "el Nano". His work draws on the poetry of authors such as Mario Benedetti and León Felipe, and fuses genres such as Catalan folklore and popular music from Latin America. Throughout his career, he has received numerous accolades, including several honorary doctorates and the Latin Grammy Award for "Person of the Year" in 2014.
