The story behind
Umberto Tozzi released Ti amo in 1977, a song that became very popular in Europe. He recorded it for his album È nell'aria... ti amo, and since then it has been played in many countries. In Sweden and Switzerland, it reached the top of the charts. There were also versions in English and Spanish, such as Te Amo, which had good acceptance in Spain and Latin America.
In 1977, a German version by Howard Carpendale also had success, reaching second place in Germany. Later, in 2002, Lena Ka recorded a version in a duet with Tozzi, in French and Italian, which was popular in France and Belgium. In 2017, Tozzi released an English version and a video with Anastacia, to celebrate the 40th anniversary.
