The story behind
The Right Profile, according to DoReSol
In The Right Profile, The Clash moves away from punk rawness to explore more complex textures, building an atmosphere that invites immersion in its details. The song, with a duration of 3:55, stands out for its distinctive sound, which goes beyond the genre's roots.
The recording of this track took place at London's Wessex Sound Studios. Producer Guy Stevens and recording engineer Bill Price worked with the band over a period of five to six weeks, starting in August 1979. This process occurred shortly after a change in the group's management and a period of creative block for songwriters Joe Strummer and Mick Jones. The album it is part of, London Calling, released in the UK in December 1979 and in the United States and Canada in January 1980, reflects The Clash's growing openness to diverse musical styles, including reggae, rockabilly, ska, New Orleans R&B, pop, lounge jazz, and hard rock, distancing themselves from the musical simplicity that characterized other bands of the era.
