The story behind
Hateful, according to DoReSol
The song *Hateful* by The Clash, with its 2:44 duration, delves into a sound that goes beyond punk roots. When recording the album London Calling, the band explored a broader musical palette, incorporating influences ranging from reggae and rockabilly to New Orleans R&B and jazz. This openness is reflected in how the compositions of Joe Strummer and Mick Jones moved away from the nihilism of bands like the Sex Pistols or the simplicity of the Ramones, seeking their own language.
The production of London Calling, handled by Guy Stevens with Bill Price as recording engineer, took place at Wessex Sound Studios in London over a period of five to six weeks, beginning in August 1979. This creative process occurred after a change in management and a period of writer's block for the songwriters. The result was a double album released in the United Kingdom in December 1979 and subsequently in the United States and Canada in January 1980.
