The story behind
This track, titled Stay, is one of the songs that make up Madonna's second studio album, Like a Virgin, released in November 1984. Following the success of her first work, the artist sought to shape her next project and turned to Nile Rodgers as producer, admiring his previous work with David Bowie on Let's Dance. To ensure the final result reflected her vision, Madonna personally selected each track on the album. In fact, she herself participated in the writing of five of the songs, four of them in collaboration with Stephen Bray, while the remaining ones were created by other songwriters. The recording sessions took place at the Power Station studio in New York, where Rodgers was joined by Bernard Edwards and Tony Thompson, who had been part of his previous band, Chic. The track Stay has a duration of 4 minutes and 6 seconds.
The production of Like a Virgin, including Stay, was handled by Nile Rodgers, who also took care of the mixing. Jason Corsaro and Rob Eaton participated in the recording engineering. Madonna, whose full name is Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone, was born in Bay City, Michigan, United States, in 1958. In 1977, she moved to New York with the intention of pursuing contemporary dance. After being part of the bands Breakfast Club and Emmy, she released her debut album in 1983. Throughout her career, she has achieved considerable popularity, pushing the boundaries of lyrical content and using her music videos as a form of artistic expression. Many of her songs have topped music charts internationally, and her influence on pop music is undeniable.
