The story behind

Soul Serenade, according to DoReSol

When Aretha Franklin recorded Soul Serenade, she was already an established figure. Born in Memphis in 1942, her voice led her to be nicknamed "Lady Soul" and "Queen of Soul". This track, with a duration of 2:38, was produced by Jerry Wexler and its music is the work of Curtis Ousley, King Curtis, and Luther Dixon. The song is part of the album I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You, released in March 1967 under the Atlantic Records label. This record marked a turning point in her career, being her first production with Atlantic after her time at Columbia Records, where she had released eight albums without achieving commercial success.

I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You became Aretha Franklin's first album to enter the top 10 in the United States, reaching second place on the Billboard 200. To promote the album, two singles were released: Respect, a cover of Otis Redding that topped the Billboard Hot 100, and I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You), which also reached the top 10. Although the initial critical reception was mixed, over time the album was re-evaluated and is now considered a fundamental work in contemporary music.
