The story behind

Satisfy My Soul, according to DoReSol

The song Satisfy My Soul has an interesting gestation history. What we now hear as Satisfy My Soul began recording in 1970 under another title, Don't Rock My Boat. However, this initial version did not see the light of day as a single. It was in 1977 when the material was revisited, re-recording and reworking the piece to include it in the album Kaya, which was released the following year, in 1978. This new version, the one we know today, was published as a single and reached number 21 on the UK charts. Over time, it became one of Bob Marley's most recognized tracks and was included in the compilation Legend.

The recording of Satisfy My Soul took place at the Island Studios in London, England. The production process involved Chris Blackwell and the band itself, Bob Marley & The Wailers, with Karl Pitterson, Alex Sadkin, and Terry Barham handling sound engineering, and Robert Ash also participating in the mixing. The album Kaya, where it was included, is characterized by a more relaxed sound focused on themes of love and marijuana culture, which drew some criticism for a supposed "softness" compared to the band's earlier work. This album, released in 1978, contained songs recorded alongside those from the 1977 album Exodus. The album version of Satisfy My Soul has an approximate duration of 4:30.
