Right Before Your Eyes

The song Right Before Your Eyes, also popularly known as Rudolph Valentino, has an interesting story behind its appearance on America's album View from the Ground. Originally, it was written by Canadian singer-songwriter Ian Thomas and first appeared in 1977 on his band's album, Calabash, by the Ian Thomas Band. His version reached number 57 in Canada. When America decided to record it for their 1982 album, View from the Ground, the song was released as the second single, following You Can Do Magic, which had been a hit. Right Before Your Eyes reached number 45 on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at number 16 on the Adult Contemporary chart.

In Canada, it charted at number 22 on the Contemporary Adult chart. The song was very well received in the Philippines in 1982. The recording took place at Capitol in Hollywood, with Bobby Colomby producing and David Cole and Jerry Smith as recording engineers, while the mixing was handled by Michael Verdick. The B-side of this single was Inspector Mills.
