The story behind
Rain Must Fall, according to DoReSol
In *Rain Must Fall*, the collaboration between John Deacon and Freddie Mercury is evident in a piece that, although not the most prominent on the album, reveals the depth of their joint work. Deacon provided the musical structure, while Mercury handled the lyrics, a process confirmed by producer David Richards and later by Brian May. During recording, Roger Taylor experimented with a large amount of Latin percussion, but much of that material was removed to give more prominence to the guitars and the complex vocal harmonies that characterize Queen. The song has a duration of 4:23.
This piece is part of *The Miracle*, Queen's thirteenth studio album, released in May 1989. The recording of the album, which began in January 1988 and spanned a full year, took place during a complex period for the band, marked by Brian May's personal problems and Freddie Mercury's HIV diagnosis in 1987. Originally, the album was going to be called *The Invisible Men*, but the name was changed to *The Miracle* just three weeks before its release. It was Queen's last work to feature a photograph of the four members on the cover. The album reached number one on the charts in the UK, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland, and peaked at number 24 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums in the United States.
