The story behind
Party Sequence, according to DoReSol
The instrumental piece _Party Sequence_ by Pink Floyd, lasting just 1:08, is featured on the album _More_, which served as the soundtrack for the film of the same name. This recording, released in the United Kingdom in June 1969 and in the United States in August of that same year, marks an interesting point in the band’s career. It was the first time Pink Floyd worked on a soundtrack project, and the film, directed by Barbet Schroeder, was shot primarily in Ibiza. For this project, the band, composed of David Gilmour, Nick Mason, Roger Waters, and Richard Wright, handled the production, jointly composing this piece.
What sets _Party Sequence_ apart is its structure, which relies on a sequence of percussion with a tribal feel, over which a penny whistle plays the melody of _Seabirds_. Interestingly, _Seabirds_ was a song Pink Floyd had recorded for the film _More_, but it ultimately did not make it onto the final album release. This instrumental piece, co-written by all members, showcases a facet of sonic experimentation within an album that, despite reaching the top ten in the UK, received mixed reviews. It is worth noting that this was the first discographic production by the band in which their former leader and principal composer, Syd Barrett, had no involvement.
