The story behind
Paradise, according to DoReSol
Paradise sounds like a sunset on the beach: the bass sets a rhythm that intertwines with the ukulele, and Nasri Atweh's voice floats over a melody that seems made to hum without thinking. It's not just the catchy hook that grabs you; it's how the chorus repeats with that party vibe that doesn't fade, even when the song ends. The detail that stands out the most when playing it is that balance between the acoustic and the electronic: the strings sound clean, but the synthesized bass gives it a shine that prevents it from feeling too "natural." If you listen to it in silence, you can almost feel the sun on your skin.
They recorded it in 2013, just when Magic! —the band that Nasri Atweh formed with Mark Pellizzer, Alex Tanas, and Ben Spivak— was looking for a sound that felt fresh yet recognizable. Before Paradise, they had already released Rude, which in Australia and New Zealand reached second place and in Canada the seventh, so the success gave them room to experiment with a more relaxed style. The song ended up on Shakira's album Shakira in 2014, in a track called Cut Me Deep, but Paradise had already started gaining traction on its own. They signed with Sony Music Entertainment and worked with Latium Entertainment, but the most interesting part is that the song was born from that blend of reggae-pop with touches of pop-rock that defined them. They weren't trying to revolutionize anything, just sound good at any party.
