The story behind
Old Mr. Heffer, according to DoReSol
The band 4 Non Blondes recorded their only studio album, Bigger, Better, Faster, More!, in 1992. The recording process took place in studios such as Groove Masters in Santa Monica, California, and Record Plant in Sausalito, California.
The album, which spans genres like Alternative Rock and hard rock, was produced by David Tickle, who also handled the mixing. The recording engineers involved were Paul Dieter, Jesse Kanner, and Laurent Tardy. This record, released on October 13, 1992, became a success, reaching sales of 1.5 million copies in the United States alone and a total of 6 million worldwide.
From the album Bigger, Better, Faster, More!, singles such as "Dear Mr. President", described by bassist Christa Hillhouse as a reflection on power hierarchies and government, were released. The second single, What's Up?, had a major impact, reaching number 1 in several countries and earning gold certification in the United States.
In 1995, the band also contributed a cover of Misty Mountain Hop for the tribute album to Led Zeppelin titled Encomium. After the disbandment of 4 Non Blondes, their vocalist and leader, Linda Perry, continued her solo career, working as a producer for artists such as Christina Aguilera, Celine Dion, and Pink.
