The story behind
Nun parlà, according to DoReSol
The song *Nun parlà* by Lucio Dalla, with a duration of 3 minutes and 53 seconds, emerges from a musical journey that spanned nearly half a century. Dalla, originally from Bologna, began his path as a clarinetist in a jazz ensemble in Rome, where figures like Fabrizio Zampa and Massimo Catalano were also present, with the support of Carlo Loffredo. His initial jazz training shaped his style, exploring from beat to rhythmic and melodic experimentation, without neglecting singer-songwriter music and approaching lyricism. In his early days, Dalla stood out for his vocal improvisations, a scat style that Adriano Celentano also practiced in the 60s and 70s.
He cultivated the influence of James Brown, adopting a vocal use characterized by being intentionally dissonant and rough, with a jazz tendency to embellish melodic lines with unexpected variations that challenged the musical conventions of the time. It was Gino Paoli who encouraged him to embark on a solo career, recognizing his potential. Lucio Dalla passed away in Montreux in 2012.
