The story behind
In Nuevamente, El Cuarteto de Nos condenses sharp irony in less than two and a half minutes. The song progresses with a rhythm that seems to slip out of its own beat, as if each note were about to stumble over the next, yet never quite falling. The bass draws lines that repeat with a logic that never quite closes, while the drums mark an irregular pulse that gives it that air of controlled swagger. It's not a melody that invites humming at first listen, but rather one that hooks you precisely for the opposite reason: its ability to play with the uncomfortable, as if the music itself were joking with the idea of being perfect.
Recorded in 1994 for Otra Navidad en las trincheras, the album where El Cuarteto de Nos left behind the rawer sound of their early days to dive into more polished yet equally cheeky arrangements. The label Ayuí / Tacuabé released the record, which ended up being a turning point in their career: an album that, without intending to, ended up defining part of Uruguayan rock in the nineties. Nuevamente is not the longest song on that work, but it is one of those that best captures that mix of sarcasm and precision that made them stand out. It lasted exactly 2:15, just enough time to drive its message home before the listener has a chance to fully process it.
