The story behind
Now We’re Getting Somewhere, according to DoReSol
When Neil Finn and Paul Hester decided to embark on a new path after the dissolution of Split Enz in 1984, they were looking for a sound that did not yet exist. The formation of what would become Crowded House began to take shape in 1985, initially under the name The Mullanes. Amidst the musical effervescence of the time, Nick Seymour approached Finn with the proposal to join this new adventure, and the band was consolidated with the incorporation of Craig Hooper on guitar. This gestation process, which included the possibility of having Bones Hilman on bass, laid the groundwork for a project that, although it did not explicitly seek massive success, ended up leaving an indelible mark.
The self-titled debut album by Crowded House, released in 1986 under the Capitol Records label, was the starting point of a career that would extend until 1996. Years later, in 2007, Neil Finn and Nick Seymour reunited, driven by the chemistry they still shared and the musical ideas they had been exploring. This rebirth brought with it the album Time on Earth, for which they added Mark Hart on guitar and piano, and Matt Sherrod on drums, filling the space left by the late Paul Hester. The song Now We’re Getting Somewhere, with a duration of 4 minutes and 6 seconds, is an example of that sonic exploration that characterized the band from its beginnings.
