The story behind
Nana del caballo grande, according to DoReSol
The Nana del caballo grande, part of the album La leyenda del tiempo, stands out for being a work that marked a before and after in the flamenco scene. This work signified a break with the usual collaborations of Camarón de la Isla, as it was the first album in which guitarist Paco de Lucía did not participate. His proposal, which moved away from more traditional flamenco, generated divided opinions among the public and caused a stir among purists, but over time it was recognized by specialized critics. José Monge Cruz, known artistically as Camarón de la Isla, was born in San Fernando, Cádiz, on December 5, 1950.
He grew up in a family environment where flamenco was a constant presence, listening to figures of the stature of Manolo Caracol and Antonio Mairena. His artistic name, Camarón, was given to him by an uncle due to his physical appearance, and to this he added "de la Isla" because of his place of origin, the Isla de León. The album La leyenda del tiempo, released in 1992, with a duration of 4:58, is considered a turning point, a fundamental piece in the popularization of what came to be called new flamenco.
