The story behind

La leyenda del tiempo, according to DoReSol

When Camarón de la Isla recorded La leyenda del tiempo, he moved away from what was known as traditional flamenco until then. This decision, which initially generated controversy among purists, ended up marking a before and after in the history of the genre, opening the doors to what would be called new flamenco. The duration of this piece is 3:41, and although it was not a commercial success at the time due to this unexpected turn, over time it was recognized by critics as a fundamental milestone.

José Monge Cruz, born in San Fernando, Cádiz, on December 5, 1950, and known artistically as Camarón de la Isla, came from a family with deep roots in flamenco. His nickname, which he would later enrich with "de la Isla" for his place of origin, came from his uncle due to his build and complexion. He left school as a child to support his father, and from a very young age, in taverns and stations, he was already singing in front of people. His death occurred in Badalona on July 2, 1992. La leyenda del tiempo was his tenth album and the first without the collaboration of his usual guitarist, Paco de Lucía. Despite the initial division it caused among the public, Don Snowden described it as a clear turning point in the world of flamenco.
