The story behind

My World, according to DoReSol

My World is the kind of song that goes unnoticed in the spotlight of an album, yet musicians end up humming it without realizing. At just 84 seconds long, it doesn’t chase epic hooks or memorable refrains—it aims for something more raw: a fleeting moment where the band sounds like they’re rehearsing in the garage next door. The opening riff, repeated with almost mechanical precision, has no adornments; it’s as if someone plugged a guitar into an amp at full blast and let the sound record itself as-is. No fills, no solos, no tempo shifts. Just a loop that holds until the song cuts abruptly, as if the cassette had run out.

They recorded it in the midst of the chaos of the Use Your Illusion Tour, when the band had already spent months on the road testing new material. Mike Clink, the engineer, and Bill Price, who handled the mix, worked with borrowed gear in makeshift studios, with no time to polish details. The result was a track that sounds like a live document: vocals without autotune, guitars with natural distortion, and a bass that fades into the mix, as if the microphone wasn’t properly positioned. It’s not a song meant to be listened to in silence; it’s for playing loud with friends in a small room, where the mistakes sound like part of the plan.
