The story behind
Mr Moon, according to DoReSol
The track Mr Moon, with its 5:29 duration, emerges from Jamiroquai's second studio album, titled The Return of the Space Cowboy. This work, released after the success of Emergency on Planet Earth, was gestated from recording sessions that began in the first half of 1994, a period in which the band was already presenting new songs in their performances. The complete album achieved a notable reception, reaching second place on the UK sales chart, the UK Albums Chart, and has sold approximately 4,500,000 copies globally.
Behind the production and arrangements of Mr Moon is Jay Kay, the leader and vocalist of this English funk and acid jazz collective. Jamiroquai, formed in 1992 in London, consolidated itself as a major force within the international funk scene, leading the acid jazz movement alongside other groups of the era. The band's sonic proposal, which fuses funk with touches of disco and electronic music, represented a reinvention of funk for the nineties. The name Jamiroquai, for its part, is an ingenious blend of the Iroquois tribe, with whom Kay feels a kinship, and the concept of "jamming" or musical improvisation.
