The story behind
Manchild (The Old School mix), according to DoReSol
The "Old School mix" version of Manchild, lasting 5 minutes and 30 seconds, immerses us in a sound that evokes a particular era. The artist, Neneh Cherry, born as Neneh Mariann Karlsson, has a story that intertwines with music from a very young age. Raised between Sweden and later in New York, her path led her to London, where she began making music, even forming part of a punk rock band called The Cherries.
This track, Manchild, was a hit, reaching number 5 in the United Kingdom. It's interesting to note how her career received a significant boost with the debut album Raw Like Sushi, released in 1989 by Virgin Records. Before that, an early version of what would become her big success Buffalo Stance appeared on the B-side of a single by Morgan-McVey in 1986, titled Looking Good Diving with the Wild Bunch. That version went unnoticed, but when regrabbed with Tim Simenon of Bomb the Bass, it became the worldwide hit we all know, climbing to the top of charts like the UK Singles Chart and the Billboard Hot 100. The album also included Kisses on the Wind, another track that resonated widely.
