The story behind

Love Will Save the Day, according to DoReSol

When you dive into Love Will Save the Day, you encounter an energy that invites movement. The rhythmic foundation, with its dance and funk pulse, grabs you immediately. It's interesting to note how this track, part of Whitney Houston's second studio album, Whitney, stands out for its sound. Unlike the artist's previous collaborations, this song was produced by John "Jellybean" Benitez, who had also worked with Madonna. Benitez was looking for a song with a message of hope and a danceable rhythm, and for this, he enlisted songwriter Toni C., who contributed the lyrics. What's unique about this recording is that Houston handled both the lead vocals and the backing vocals, something not so common in her catalog. Furthermore, the inclusion of a vibraphone solo by jazz-funk musician Roy Ayers gives it a distinctive touch.

The release of Love Will Save the Day occurred in May 1988, as the fifth single from the album Whitney. Although no music video was produced to accompany it, the song proved its strength on the charts. While it didn't continue Houston's streak of seven consecutive number-one singles, it did mark a milestone by becoming her ninth consecutive track to reach the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100. This positioned her as the third female artist to achieve five top-ten singles from a single album. Its impact was also felt on other Billboard charts, reaching the number one spot on the Hot Dance Club Songs chart, thus consolidating her third consecutive number one in that category. The song was also well-received in countries like Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, France, and the Netherlands. Some critics described it as a danceable track with touches of social commentary, while others highlighted its vibrant percussion and Afro-Cuban flavor, considering it a joyful and unique piece within a mostly mainstream album.
