The story behind

Love on the Vine, according to DoReSol

The song Love on the Vine, with a duration of 3 minutes and 21 seconds, is featured on View From the Ground, the tenth studio album by the folk-rock duo America, released in August 1982 by Capitol Records. This album marked a comeback for the group, which had been considered defunct following the departure of Dan Peek five years earlier. The record had moderate success in the United States, reaching number 41 on the Billboard album chart. It spawned two well-received singles: You Can Do Magic, which climbed to number eight on the Billboard singles chart and number five on the adult contemporary chart, staying on the charts for 20 weeks—longer than any other America single up to that point; and Right Before Your Eyes, also known as Rudolph Valentino, which peaked at number 45 on the Billboard singles chart and number 16 on the adult contemporary chart.

America was formed in 1970 in London, though its members, Dewey Bunnell, Gerry Beckley, and Dan Peek, were sons of U.S. military personnel. Sharing a love for acoustic guitars and the California folk-rock sound of bands like The Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash, they chose the name "America" as a nostalgic nod to their heritage. Their 1971 debut album gained attention with the inclusion of A Horse with No Name, a desert-themed song that became a global hit and defined their signature sound. Throughout the early 1970s, they released a string of albums including Homecoming (1972), Hat Trick (1973), and the successful Holiday (1974), the latter produced by George Martin, who also contributed to other albums, refining their radio-friendly sound with tracks like Tin Man and Lonely People. The mixing of Love on the Vine was handled by Mark Linett, while production was overseen by Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell.
