By 1978, AC/DC had already released five albums internationally and had toured Australia and Europe on extensive tours. Upon arriving in the United States in 1977, and despite having scarce radio support, the band began to build a fanbase through their live performances. Their live album, If You Want Blood, had reached number 13 in the United Kingdom. Previous works, Let There Be Rock (1977) and Powerage (1978), already showed the band defining their characteristic blues-based hard rock sound. The recording of Love Hungry Man featured engineering by Kevin Dallimore and mixing by Tony Platt, under the production of Robert John “Mutt” Lange. The band was formed in Sydney, Australia, in 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, who came from Scotland. Their first performance was on New Year's Eve 1973.
