The story behind
In 1979, AC/DC released Highway to Hell, an album that would mark a before and after. From that work comes Girls Got Rhythm, a song that, according to some, sounded like something already heard, perhaps from 1974 or 1975. The truth is that the band was at a peak moment, consolidating its powerful and direct hard rock sound. The recording of this track, along with the rest of the album, took place between March and April 1979 at London's Roundhouse studios, with production by Robert John "Mutt" Lange. The recording engineer was Kevin Dallimore, and the mixing was handled by Tony Platt. This record was the Australian band's sixth studio album and the last to feature the vocals of Bon Scott, who would pass away the following year.
Girls Got Rhythm was released as a single in 1979, and in the United Kingdom it was presented on an EP that included other songs such as If You Want Blood (You've Got It) and Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be, the latter recorded live. The song has also appeared on compilations and live recordings, such as the album Let There Be Rock: The Movie, part of the Bonfire box set. Additionally, a video of the band performing it can be found on the DVD Family Jewels. The track even had a big-screen appearance in the 2006 film DOA: Dead or Alive.
