The story behind

Little Star, according to DoReSol

When you encounter *Little Star*, you come across a piece that moves away from the more electronic energy of her album, *Ray of Light*. Instead of forceful rhythms, the song unfolds like a lullaby, with arrangements that evoke an ethereal atmosphere. You'll hear smoothly flowing basslines, expanding strings, and percussion that, while present, remains subtle, creating a dreamlike atmosphere. Madonna's voice here feels intimate and protective, as if she were whispering directly to the listener. It's a sound that invites calm and reflection, very different from what we usually associate with the artist.

The story behind *Little Star* is quite personal. It was written by Madonna along with Rick Nowels, and both shared a recent experience: parenthood. Nowels, who admired Madonna's previous work, met with her in New York and, after some songwriting sessions in Los Angeles, this song emerged. Curiously, it was born from a failed attempt to use a sample from a seventies film. Nowels recounts that, at a moment of writer's block, he started playing some chords and Madonna began to sing, guiding the melody in a very organic writing process. The song was recorded in 1997 in a California studio, and the production was handled by Madonna and Marius de Vries, being the only track on the album where William Orbit had no production credits. In the UK, *Little Star* was released as a double A-side single with *The Power of Good-Bye* on November 23, 1998, and was promoted as an ideal choice for the Christmas season.
