The story behind
Listen to My Heart, according to DoReSol
When you encounter Listen to My Heart, you come across that raw and direct energy that defines the Ramones. It's a perfect example of how, in just 1 minute and 59 seconds, they could encapsulate a complete idea. The composition is an example of their style: direct, straightforward, building on repeating patterns that grab you from the first chord. There are no unnecessary embellishments, just the pure essence of the punk rock they helped to shape.
This track was born in the recording sessions for the band's first self-titled album, Ramones, released in April 1976. The band entered the studio in January of that same year and, in just seven days, with a budget of $6,400, they managed to capture these songs. Recording engineers Rob Freeman and Don Hünerberg worked alongside producers Thomas Erdelyi and Craig Leon to capture that very particular sound. The album's iconic cover was photographed by Roberta Bayley, showing the four members leaning against a brick wall in New York City.
