The story behind
Lion in Winter, according to DoReSol
The song *Lion in Winter* by the Bee Gees has a duration of 4:01 and was produced by the group themselves along with Robert Stigwood. It is included in the album *Trafalgar*, which was the British group's ninth studio album. This work was released in September 1971 in the United States, distributed by Atco Records, and in November of the same year in the United Kingdom, under the Polydor Records label. The album had a moderate reception in the United States, reaching number 34, while its lead single, *How Can You Mend a Broken Heart?*, did manage to reach the top spot on the American charts. Despite this, in the United Kingdom, *Trafalgar* did not achieve a prominent position. The album was later recognized by being included in the list of "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die".
The Bee Gees were formed in 1958, and their sound was characterized by easily recognizable three-part vocal harmonies. The brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb, born on the Isle of Man to English parents, spent their early years in Chorlton, Manchester, England. Later, in the late 1950s, they moved to Redcliffe, Queensland, Australia, where they began their musical career. After achieving their first success in Australia with *Spicks and Specks*, they returned to the United Kingdom in January 1967. It was then that Robert Stigwood began to promote their career internationally. The group experienced two notable peaks of popularity: one as a pop act in the late sixties and early seventies, and another as disco music pioneers in the late seventies. The Gibb brothers stood out for composing and performing their own hits, as well as writing and producing songs for other artists. It is estimated that the total record sales of the Bee Gees exceed 220 million, placing them among the best-selling artists in history.
