The story behind
Legalise It, according to DoReSol
The song Legalise It by UB40 is an extensive piece, with a duration of 9:53, which delves into the band's characteristic dub and reggae sound. The production of this track was handled by Dan Armstrong, Danny Canaan, and the band itself, UB40, who were also responsible for the arrangements.
The group UB40 was formed in Birmingham, England, in 1978. Its members, childhood friends from diverse backgrounds, acquired their first instruments with money earned after a fight, and some of them learned to play them on the fly. After recording a demo that was played on the radio, they began performing in venues. It was Chrissie Hynde, from The Pretenders, who gave them a chance by inviting them to be the opening act on her 1979 tour. In 1980, they released their first album, Signing off, and founded their record label, DEP International, with which they released Present Arms in Dub. The major boost to their career came in 1983 with their version of Red Red Wine, a song by Neil Diamond included in the album Labour of Love. By 2010, the band remained active in international concerts, despite their vocalist, Ali Campbell, having left in 2008 to form his own project.
