The story behind

Jody is a pop song released in 1986, part of the album Frantic Romantic by Jermaine Stewart. It was written by him, Narada Michael Walden and Jeffrey Cohen, and produced by Walden. It was released as the third single, and in the United States it reached #9 on the dance charts and #42 on the Billboard Hot 100. In Canada, it reached #81.

The song was inspired by Jody Watley, member of Shalamar, with whom Stewart had worked before. The B-side, Dance Floor, also appeared on that album. For the single, several remixes were made, and a limited edition of 2x12" was released that also included two versions of We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off.
