The story behind

Jive Talkin’, according to DoReSol

When the Bee Gees released Main Course in 1975, they marked a turning point. This album, their thirteenth studio effort, was the first to predominantly incorporate R&B, soul, disco, and funk rhythms, laying the groundwork for their late seventies sound. It was a breath of fresh air that revitalized their career and image, especially in the United States, after their previous works did not meet commercial expectations. For this new sonic phase, keyboardist Blue Weaver was brought in, who had previously played with Strawbs and toured with Mott the Hoople. The album cover featured a new logo designed by American artist Drew Struzan.

The song Jive Talkin’, with a duration of 3:44, is a perfect example of this transformation. It was produced by Arif Mardin, who managed to capture the energy and pulse of these new styles. The brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb, born on the Isle of Man and with English roots, had begun their musical career in Australia, in Redcliffe, Queensland, after spending their early years in Chorlton, Manchester. After an initial success in their native country with Spicks and Specks, they returned to the United Kingdom in 1967, where Robert Stigwood began to promote them internationally. The Bee Gees were characterized by their tight and distinctive vocal harmonies, with Robin's vibrato as the hallmark of their early hits and Barry's falsetto defining their later sound.
