The story behind

When brothers Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb, and Maurice Gibb, in other words, the Bee Gees, decided to compose a song specifically thinking of Céline Dion, the result was Immortality. This piece, which can be classified as a pop ballad, was created by them and later produced by Walter Afanasieff. Although the version we hear is Céline Dion's, there is an earlier take by the Gibb brothers, which can be found in later compilations of their hits. The song had a significant impact, reaching number 2 in Germany and Austria, and number 4 in Europe. In Portugal and Brazil, it even topped the radio charts. Its success was reflected in platinum certifications in Germany, gold in Sweden, and silver in France and the United Kingdom.

The story of Immortality also intertwines with television, as it was part of the international soundtrack of the telenovela Torre de Babel, broadcast between 1998 and 1999. There, the song served as the theme for the characters Cesar and Marta. Additionally, there is a Brazilian adaptation titled Imortal, recorded by the duo Sandy & Junior in 1999. As for the Bee Gees, their musical legacy is extensive, having begun their career in 1958. Their career is divided into two major periods of success: one in the late sixties and early seventies, and another as protagonists of the disco era in the late seventies. The group, formed by brothers born on the Isle of Man, was characterized by their distinctive vocal harmonies and by composing their own hits, as well as writing for other artists. It is estimated that their total sales exceed 220 million records. The song Immortality was officially released outside the United States on June 8, 1998, as part of Céline Dion's album Let's Talk About Love. Two music videos were created to accompany the release. The first, directed by Scott Floyd Lochmus, shows Céline Dion and the Bee Gees in the recording studio in 1997, and was included as bonus material on the DVD Au cœur du stade. A second video, directed by Randee St. Nicholas, was released in late July 1998. For the recording of the song, the collaboration of several recording engineers was enlisted, including Chris Brooke, Humberto Gatica, Mark Hagen, and Ethan Schofer, among others, and the mixing was handled by Humberto Gatica. The Bee Gees also performed live at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on November 14, 1997, which was recorded on the album and DVD One Night Only, originally released in 1997 and reissued in 1999. This concert covered songs from various decades of their career.
