The story behind
Ibiza Bar, according to DoReSol
The song Ibiza Bar by Pink Floyd stands out for its powerful guitar riff reminiscent of The Nile Song, but with a different approach in its structure. Unlike that other piece, Ibiza Bar does not move through multiple tonalities, giving it a more direct and punchy feel. The song’s production features notable use of echo effects on David Gilmour’s guitars, adding an enveloping and distinctive atmosphere. Alongside other tracks like When You’re In... and Young Lust, this song represents one of the few moments when the band delves into a heavier sound, showcasing their versatility and musical exploration.
The track is part of the soundtrack for the film More, which premiered in 1969 and marked the directorial debut of Barbet Schroeder. The album, released on June 13, 1969, in the United Kingdom and August 9 in the United States, signaled a significant shift for the band, as Syd Barrett, their former leader and primary songwriter, did not participate in this project. Despite mixed reviews, the album reached the top ten in UK charts, and several of its songs were performed in later concerts by the band. The recording of Ibiza Bar and other pieces for the film was produced by Pink Floyd, solidifying their unique style in the musical landscape of the time.
