The story behind

"I Remember Yesterday" isn't just another '70s disco song—it sounds like a trip back in time. Donna Summer's voice shifts between an intimate whisper and a cry that seems to come from another era, while the synthesizers weave melodies that could be from the '60s or a distant future. It’s no coincidence that the song peaked at No. 14 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 20 on the Dutch Top 40 in 1977: that contrast between the retro and the avant-garde captivated Europe at a time when the disco sound was still searching for its identity.

The album *I Remember Yesterday* was released seven months after *Four Seasons of Love*, and on it, Donna Summer, Giorgio Moroder, and Pete Bellotte created one of those rare gems where the production doesn’t sound rushed or improvised. The song itself lasts 4 minutes and 46 seconds, but the effect it creates feels much longer: as if each note transports the listener to a place where the past and present blend together without warning. It wasn’t the typical dance track of the era; here the beat pulses more slowly, almost as if the body had to remember before moving. And yet, it worked.
